ALEISHA LARGENT

Founder | Covenant Keeper’s K9 Training Facility

Covenant Keeper’s K9 Training Facility was founded in 2017 out of a calling, not just a career choice.

I have always believed that the gifts God places in our hands are meant to be stewarded well. For me, that gift has always been animals.

Raised on farms and ranches on Colorado’s Western Slope, I grew up surrounded by livestock, working dogs, and wide open land. From a young age, I understood responsibility, consistency, and the quiet leadership animals require. I began working in the animal care field at 12 years old and started training animals at 16. As a high school senior, I professionally trained my first canine — a one-year-old Siberian Husky — for competition.

Over the years, I have trained BLM wild mustangs, developed horses from weanlings to advanced saddle work, and worked extensively with competitive and working dogs. I have taken numerous dogs through the AKC Canine Good Citizen evaluations and titled one of my own dogs as a National and International Champion in conformation and showmanship.

Today, I actively train my personal dogs in agility, dock diving, scent work, ring sports and obedience. I also serve as the Delta County 4-H Dog Leader, mentoring youth not just in training skills, but in responsibility, integrity, and partnership with their animals.

Faith & Philosophy

The name Covenant Keeper reflects my belief that trust matters.

Dogs are deeply loyal, honest creatures. They respond to clarity, consistency, and calm leadership. I believe our role as handlers is to steward that loyalty well.

My training philosophy is rooted in:

  • Clear communication

  • Fair accountability

  • Compassion without chaos

  • Leadership without intimidation

I believe structure creates security.
Consistency builds confidence.
And when dogs understand what is expected of them, they thrive.

Training is not about control, it is about stewardship.

Family & Legacy

When I’m not at the training facility, you’ll find me outdoors hiking, fishing, hunting, camping, and paddleboarding with my daughters: Cambria, Xavia, and Savannah.

My girls share my love for animals and actively compete in 4-H and dog sports. They assist in the care and training of dogs at the facility, learning firsthand about responsibility, discipline, and compassion.

Training dogs is more than a profession for me.

It is a legacy I am building for my children and my community.

At Covenant Keeper’s K9 Training Facility, we don’t just train dogs.

We build relationships.
We restore clarity.
We steward loyalty well.

DONNA MAURER

Trainer | Covenant Keeper’s K9 Training Facility

I grew up in Chicago, Illinois, where my love for animals began at a very young age. I was the child who devoured every animal book, watched every wildlife show, and collected dog and horse figurines while memorizing breed traits and histories. Animals were never just an interest — they were my calling.

In the 1980s, I earned my Cosmetology license and worked as a hairstylist. After marrying my husband John and raising our two daughters, Abby and Katy, I transitioned into working in a K–12 school setting, serving as a Librarian, Art teacher, Computer teacher, and Special Education aide. Supporting children with different learning styles deepened my patience, creativity, and understanding of behavior skills that now translate beautifully into working with dogs and their families.

In 2018, our family relocated to Montrose, Colorado, when John accepted a position at Montrose Hospital. Shortly after moving, I began working at the Montrose Animal Shelter, where I spent over two years helping dogs transition from uncertainty to adoptability. It was there that I saw firsthand how behavior education could change a dog’s future.

Determined to help more dogs succeed, I pursued formal training and certification in canine behavior.

Education & Certifications

  • CCTBS – Certified Canine Training & Behavior Specialist (Animal Behavior Institute)

  • CACTP – Certified Advanced Canine Training Professional (Animal Behavior Institute)

  • Karen Pryor Academy Puppy Start Right Graduate

  • Currently pursuing certification through WEBB (Whole Energy Body Balance) — a specialized neuro-fascial bodywork approach designed to relieve pain, tension, restriction, and trauma in dogs and cats. Upon completion, I will be the 5th certified practitioner in the United States.

I strongly believe in continued education and actively seek out programs that deepen my understanding of behavior, learning theory, and whole-dog wellness.

Philosophy

My passion lies in helping dogs feel understood and helping owners feel empowered.

Behavior is communication. When we learn to listen, we can guide change more effectively.

My background in shelter work, education, and bodywork has given me a holistic perspective — addressing not just behavior, but also physical tension, emotional stress, and environmental factors that influence how a dog responds.

Life at Home

At home, I share life with three large dogs — a Lab/German Shepherd mix, a Saint Bernard/Great Pyrenees mix, and a Pit/Heeler mix — along with seven cats (a result of fostering kittens during my time at the shelter).

Animals have always been at the center of my life and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
